Over a period of time, the accuracy and measuring results of your 3D scanner can be affected by long use. Recalibration means checking and adjusting your scanner so you can be sure it continues to meet the specifications that Kreon guarantees.

1 – Confidence in data

Recalibration ensures consistent quality of measurements taken by the scanner and hence confidence in the results obtained. This procedure is part of the ongoing inspection process for all measuring instruments. We recommend carrying it out annually.

2 – Testing accuracy before recalibration

Before recalibration, the level of accuracy of the scanner is ascertained. Extreme inaccuracy can point to incorrect use of the scanner or a more serious problem with the scanner itself. Accuracy within the typical scanner specifications shows that the scanner is working properly, maintaining the quality of your inspections.

3 – Disassembling the scanner

The scanner is then opened and all the optical and electronic components are checked (physical and functional state). In rare cases, parts that have become loose or detached are identified and refastened to avoid the risk of the scanner breaking down.

4 – Cleaning inside and out

The scanner is cleaned systematically. The optical parts must be absolutely clean because they play an essential part when taking measurements. Dust and oil are removed from inside and outside the scanner.

5 – Testing cables and accessories

For scanners used on machines, the cable and accessory kits are also checked. Defective or severely worn cables are replaced.

6 – Updating firmware

Sometimes the firmware has to be updated because it has evolved since the last calibration. This can improve the scanner’s performance and enhance compatibility with its software and hardware environment.

7 – Ensuring optimum accuracy

And finally, the actual recalibration is carried out. The scanner will now again perform just like a new device. Perhaps, thanks to the latest optimisations of calibration, its performance will have improved even further.

Recalibration is essential in order to maintain a high level of quality in the digital data provided by your 3D scanner. It is also the perfect occasion for general maintenance, extending your scanner’s service life.
